Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.” Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him. Mark 8:27-28, NIV Peter's confession goes beyond recognising Jesus as a prophet or a great teacher. Filled with divine insight, he declares, "You are the Christ." In this moment, Peter sees Jesus not only as a human leader but as the long-awaited Messiah, the Anointed One sent by God to fulfill his promises of redemption. What sets Peter's statement apart is the source of his understanding. It is not a conclusion reached through human reasoning or observation alone, but a revelation granted by the Father in heaven. This teaches us that recognising the true identity of Jesus requires spiritual insight that comes from a heart attuned to God. Peter's declaration lays the foundation for the disciples' understanding of the purpose of Jesus' mission. It positions them to understand the Messiah will not simply be a political deliverer but the Saviour who will redeem humankind. What foundation will you lay today so that someone else will build on their understanding of Jesus? How will you use divine revelation to shape someone else's perception of Jesus? Let's pray Thank you Holy Spirit that you reveal truth. Lead me today into a deeper relationship with the One who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and give me the insight and the words to help someone else see Jesus as he really is. Amen.
