Romans 8:1-4, NIV
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. The last sneaky burden is guilt. God has given us all a conscience and our conscience can challenge us when we have done something wrong. But, it can also lead us to experience false guilt; we feel guilty about things that are not our responsibility. We need our conscience to be educated by God. And if you know me at all you’ll know what I’m going to say next… the best way to get educated by God is to get into his word. The bible encourages us to accurately handle the word of truth. If we know the word we know we can take the things we’ve done wrong to Jesus, ask his forgiveness confident we will receive it. If we know the word we can spot false guilt and send it to the pit where it belongs. Whenever you feel a twinge of guilt ask yourself: do I need forgiveness, or do I need to bind this? And then take the appropriate action. If you’re in Christ, guilt is not your inheritance. Let's pray Lord, your word says you removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. Help me to remember this truth when guilt wants to keep me bound. Remind me I am a new creation. You have dealt with the old and made me new. I walk head-high and guilt-free and praise you for this awesome gift. Amen.
