Exodus 3:2, NIV
There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. Of all the people I have known across the years the ones who have concerned me most are the competitive ones. (A bit of repenting needed here!) By "the competitive ones", I don’t mean those who love to win games or sport, but the ones who see everything they do as a means to be elevated, not to elevate, to be rewarded, not to reward, to be recognised, not recognise. You have met them, I know. Paul exhorts us to do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit [through factional motives, or strife], but with [an attitude of] humility [being neither arrogant nor self-righteous], regard others as more important than ourselves. (Philippians 2:3, AMP). I would summarise this as “flames don’t cast shadows”. Praise God for the people who simply get on with what God has asked them to do and never seek a moment’s glory for it. Thank the Lord for those who work in the background doing the unseen jobs that are vital to maintain Kingdom community. Jesus strengthen the ones whose work is unacknowledged but yet reaches hundreds for you. My prayer is that whatever flame we carry we would be committed to using it to illuminate the gifting and ministries of others. May we always point to Jesus, our source and the Light of the World. Let's pray Father, thank you that we are one in Christ, we are his body and all have a part to play in the advancement of your Kingdom. Set me on fire for you but keep me humble, Lord. In Jesus name. Amen.
