Isaiah 46:4, TLB
I will be your God through all your lifetime, yes, even when your hair is white with age. I made you and I will care for you. I will carry you along and be your Saviour. I tripped over this verse sometime in the first Covid lockdown. I’m sure I’d read it before but it had a real impact on me this time around. I suspect the timing helped: I had been horrified by the suggestion of herd immunity which seemed to disregard the intrinsic value of anyone elderly or vulnerable. I was watching news reports of care home residents falling ill and dying without having seen their families and friends. I couldn’t visit my mum because she was shielding... So, I clung to this promise. Not just for me but for all who love Jesus. The Father has promised he will be our God for the whole of our lives. He never writes us off, never considers us expendable, never thinks we are worth less than others. He sticks with us, cares for us, saves us. The Father cherishes every white hair. I intend to grow old gracefully only in the sense that I am certain of my eternal destiny. In every other way I intend to be in everyone's face about my wonderful Jesus as often as I can. Let's pray You are my God throughout my lifetime. You made me and you will care for me. You will carry me along because you are my Saviour. Bless me with a long life that brings you glory, Jesus. In your name. Amen.
