“…we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.” Colossians 1: 9-10, ESV We have two Newfoundland dogs, Harvey and Baloo. Harvey is older and arthritis has made his joints stiff so sometimes walking is difficult. It is crucial for his resilience and well-being, however, that he walks every day. Consequently, we adjust our walks to the day and how he is likely to be feeling. The perfect conditions for a good walk are on the cool side and dry. On those days he feels great and walks well. On other days he still wants the walk but needs encouragement, so I walk next him and tell him how well he’s doing. Every “Good boy, Harvey” spurs him on a little further. As you begin this lent devotional series it helps to remember that you need to walk with Jesus every day. Regardless of how you’re feeling, or what the day looks like, continuing in your walk with the Lord is crucial for your resilience and good for your well-being. And, the great news is, you don’t do it alone; the Holy Spirit walks next to you. Take a moment today to feel the presence and hear the Spirit encourage and spur you on. Keep going. You are walking well! Let’s pray Thank you, Holy Spirit, for walking with me. Thank you for the way you encourage me to trust the Father and follow his ways. Help me live my life by your enabling power. May I walk well and please the Father fully. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Want more? Order my new book Developing Kingdom Resilience here!
