1 Peter 1:18-19, NIV
For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. I went to London on a theatre trip with two great friends recently. (If I tell you we had the time our lives and no-one put Baby in the corner you may be able to guess the show!) I’d taken some bottles of water for us which cost me £1 each from my local supermarket. We ate in Chinatown and bought more water at a cost £1.50 a bottle. At the theatre the charge for the water was £2. The brand was the same each time, the only thing that changed the water’s price was where it was being sold. You are of inestimable value to the Father and that does not change depending on where you are. If you find yourself somewhere where your worth is being diminished, if others don’t see your significance, if you are belittled or side-lined, have the courage to move. And ask the Lord to bring people around you who will encourage and spur you on. Of course, we may not be the only ones who are being undermined and undervalued. We may find ourselves in a place where the culture treats everyone with the same disdain. In those spaces we need to remember we carry the Truth in the middle of us and can share him with others in order to see them set free. Be determined today to walk conscious of your inestimable worth but also to look for ways you can speak life to others so they start to see themselves as God sees them. Let's pray Lord Jesus, would you help me to see myself as you see me. In this season as I consider everything you achieved for me on the cross would you free me from the wrong ideas I have about myself, inaccurate words that have been spoken over me, unjust criticism I have received. And Lord, as you bring healing and completeness to me would you help me extend your love and hope to others around me. For your glory, Jesus and in your name. Amen.
